In October 2025, select Enterprise customers with signficantly out of date Starlink software received notifications that they would need to update their Starlink by December 1, 2025.

These customers fall into two groups:

1. Customers who must plug in their Starlink by December 1 or their kit will be permanently inoperable.
2. Customers who should plug in their Starlink and perform a software update through the app. Beginning on December 2, their kit will be unable to access the internet until the update is completed. This is a quick update, which can be completed at the time the kit is plugged in and activated.

This is part of ongoing improvements to enhance security, performance, and reliability across the Starlink network.

Who needs to update?

Only customers who received an email need to take action. Each email includes an attachment with Starlink ID (UTID) and Kit Serial Number, identifying which Starlink kit(s) are affected.

Do I need an active service line or subscription?

No. You do not need an active service line to complete this update. Simply plugging in your Starlink and following the instructions will allow the update to install.

You will not be charged for completing this update or for keeping your Starlink plugged in during the process.

Instructions for Enterprise customers who must plug in their Starlink.

Follow these steps:

• Place your Starlink outside and plug it in.
• You do not need a perfectly clear view of the sky to receive the update.
• Check the app for progress. The update will automatically download and install (typically 15-30 minutes).

If your Starlink is already powered on and connected, the update should apply automatically.

Instructions for customers who must manually perform a software update.

Follow these steps:

1. Plug in your Starlink. It does not need to be outside.
2. Connect to your Starlink WiFi network and open the app.
3. The Starlink app will prompt you to update your Starlink with a "Manual update."
4. Tap "Update now". Do not close the app or disconnect from WiFi while the process runs. It should take less than 60 seconds.

If you can't access these specific terminals before December 1, don’t worry—your kit will function once you complete the update.

Where can I find my Starlink ID (UTID)?

To find your Starlink ID, visit your account portal and click "Your Subscriptions." You will see your Starlink ID and other identification under "Devices."

Do I need to plug in my router too?

Only your Starlink terminal needs to be powered on for this update.

How do I check if the software update has happened in the app?

1. Go to the "Advanced" Button
2. Look for the "Starlink" section
3. Check for the year 2025. next to "Software version"

Software Versions

Software version 2024.05.0 is the key cutoff for sideloading capability.

Before 2024.05.0: Kits on these older versions cannot sideload and must plug in and point at the sky to receive the required update by December 1 2025 or else they will be permanently inoperable.

Between 2024.05.0 and 2024.12.26: Kits on these versions can sideload the update through the app. Customers must do this before December 1, or else their Starlink will be unable to access the internet until the update is completed.

After 2024.12.26: These versions do not require action at this time.

Note: Around September 27, 2024, software version naming changed from week numbers to dates. As a result, some versions labeled higher than “2024.12” (e.g. 2024.13, 2024.14, etc.) were actually released before version 2024.12.26. This can make version order appear confusing, but 2024.12.26 remains the true cutoff for current software.
