Your Starlink has a snow melt functionality, which allows it to automatically use the power it draws to heat itself and melt snow. This feature helps prevent impacts on service and reduces the need for you to manually remove snow from your Starlink. Icicles and ice buildup generally do not impact performance. If you prefer, you may gently remove ice or snow at any time. We recommend against using tools (such as picks or chisels) to avoid damaging your Starlink.
For actuated Starlink models, ice or snow buildup typically does not affect service but could prevent the motors from moving if the dish needs to reposition. If the base of your Starlink is impeded by snow or ice, you may receive a motors blocked alert in the Starlink App. If this occurs, gently removing ice or icicles around the base may be necessary to allow the dish to reposition. This should rarely happen.
Heavy snow accumulation on the top of your Starlink may impact service for both actuated and non-actuated models. If the dish becomes completely covered by heavy snow, this may result in intermittent connectivity or no service. We recommend installing your Starlink in a location where it is unlikely to be buried by snow or in areas where snow is not known to build up.
