You can pause your service with Standby Mode, which provides unlimited low-speed data for emergency messaging, ongoing Starlink software updates, and easy reactivation in dead zones for a small monthly fee.
Which plans support pausing?
You can pause with Standby Mode on all Roam, Residential, and Priority plans (excluding promotional offerings).
Note: Business customers and Enterprise accounts cannot pause with Standby Mode.

What does easy reactivation in dead zones mean?

- Easily switch to high-speed plans
What happens if I want to resume high-speed service after pausing with Standby Mode, but my area is at capacity for Residential plans?
Pausing with Standby Mode does not reserve your spot on a Residential plan. If your area is at capacity when you try to resume, you may not be able to reactivate your previous Residential plan. You can:
- Resume service immediately on a Roam or Priority plan, or
- Place a deposit to wait for availability
Important Notes:
- Standby Mode, where available, offers speeds up to 500 Kbps download and upload.
- You may resume service and change your plan at any time.
- If you restart your service before your next billing cycle, you'll be charged your usual monthly fee.
- Pausing service before the end of your current billing period allows you to receive service for the remainder of that period.
- Upon resuming service, the monthly subscription fee is charged immediately, on a pro-rated basis.
- Starlink subscriptions billing is tied to UTC time; changes must be made before 12:00 AM UTC on your billing day. Changes made after midnight will be delayed until the next billing day.
- Data blocks purchased before pausing will not roll over upon reactivation.
- Standby Mode does not include high-speed or overage data. You can un-pause and resume service for high-speed plans.
Note: We recently upgraded pause to include Standby Mode. Previously, the pause feature offered zero data at no cost. If pausing with Standby Mode does not meet your needs, you are able to cancel at no cost and restart service on an available plan whenever you’re ready.
Pausing service with Standby Mode is not available in the following countries. In these locations, customers with Roam and Priority plans can pause their service at no cost but will not receive any data while paused. Residential customers in these countries cannot pause.
