SITUATION

Established in 1946, Savage is a private company based in Midvale, Utah that owns and operates three businesses: Savage Infrastructure, Bartlett and Texon. With more than 4,200 team members in nearly 200 locations across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Saudi Arabia, these companies are integral to the global supply chain, helping their customers and partners feed the world and power their lives.

Delivering for Savage’s customers without interruptions is vital. Most of their locations operate 24/7/365, so having access to reliable, high-speed internet is of the utmost importance.

CHALLENGE

The primary challenge for Savage's operations stems from their sites being located in remote or hard-to-access areas, such as behind fences on customer properties or on the far side of railroad tracks, where reliable internet infrastructure is often unavailable. This situation made delivering traditional wireline services extremely difficult, requiring permits for digging, dealing with weather-related delays, and navigating multi-agency approvals, all of which contributed to lengthy lead times of 6–9 weeks or more.

In response, Savage relied on a variety of internet solutions, ranging from outdated DSL to more modern options like fiber, cable, satellite, and cellular. These choices were based on what seemed feasible at the time in terms of performance and cost, but they often led to a frustrating guess-and-test approach when surveying areas and evaluating carriers. This added layers of complexity, including the hassle of managing wireless contracts on top of everything else, exacerbating the overall challenges in maintaining dependable connectivity.

For Savage, Starlink could provide a practical solution by offering high-performance connectivity with fast speeds, reliable dependability, and enhanced mobility. This eliminates the need for permits related to digging, lengthy installation lead times, or multi-agency approvals.
Flexible Solution

“We need to stay agile and ready to move when necessary. Starlink gives us that flexibility — allowing us to relocate equipment as needed without being tied down by contracts if our business needs change.”

Reduced Costs

“We no longer have to sign expensive multi-year contracts with so-called ‘SLAs’ to restore service. We’ve saved a significant amount of money by moving at least a third of our environment to Starlink — with plans for even more.”

Seamless Integration

“Starlink has become our standard for starting up new locations. The entire experience makes it too easy not to use Starlink.”

IMPACT

Savage installed Starlink Enterprise and Performance Kits across their sites and gained enhanced latency performance, bandwidth, uptime, and coverage. “Starlink has transformed our landscape immensely. It’s basically a “set it and forget it” solution. Gone are the days of trying to find the best provider by address in any given area or dealing with long installation wait times. Being able to have Starlink shipped and installed by our own on-site teams has been invaluable. It’s a win-win — my team can easily manage all Starlink sites, and each location benefits from high-speed, dependable internet.”
