Heirs Energies is Africa’s largest indigenous owned energy company, headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria. Established in January 2021, the company is committed to addressing Africa’s unique energy needs while aligning with global sustainability goals. Its mission is to drive sustainable energy solutions that power Africa’s growth, emphasizing innovation, environmental responsibility, and community development.
CHALLENGE
Heirs Energies’ remote wellhead monitoring operations demand high-speed internet and autonomous power solutions, but they struggle with unreliable connectivity in Nigeria’s Niger Delta, where remote locations and poor internet infrastructure disrupt real-time data flow. Traditional LTE networks have proven inadequate in these isolated environments due to coverage limitations and frequent downtimes.
IMPACT
To address these challenges, Heirs Energies enlisted the support of Redtech to develop and deploy an off-grid IoT solution built around Starlink satellite internet technology, engineered for 24/7 operations using high-efficiency solar generation and smart power management. Heirs Energies now has real-time visibility and control over all their deployed assets — 90% of total site traffic now flows through Starlink.
Starlink Standard Kits were deployed at every wellhead, with a total of 21 wellhead sites established in staged phases, with each phase building upon the previous in both capability and reliability. With these technological capabilities, uptime for critical communication equipment has improved significantly. Starlink enables:
Load Balancing & Failover: Starlink and router loads are prioritized during batter depletion or system anomalies
Remote Reboot & Diagnostics: Administrators have granular control of mission-critical systems and preemptive issue resolution
24/7 Monitoring: Usage of Starlink APIs allows for continuous monitoring of terminal health, data usage, signal quality, and uptime
