SITUATION

Williams operates coast to coast and border to border, providing energy to some of the nation’s largest metropolitan areas, including New York City and Atlanta. The company also maintains operations in extremely remote locations, such as the deepwater Gulf and the heart of the Rockies. Its teams are on call 24/7 to keep energy flowing where it is needed. Field technicians work outdoors and on the road, sometimes facing nature’s harshest elements, including blizzards and hurricanes. In total, Williams manages more than 17,000 equipment sites and more than 3,000 vehicles.

The safety of its people, communities, and the environment is Williams' highest priority. Keeping operations running safely, reliably, and responsibly depends on strong communication systems. The company must ensure high-availability cellular and wireless connectivity for its field teams, even in the most far-flung locations.

By integrating Starlink into its technology portfolio, Williams has expanded its communications infrastructure to reach areas where traditional cellular networks and legacy systems are limited or unavailable. This advancement strengthens the company's ability to keep its people connected, informed, and safe—no matter where the job takes them.

CHALLENGE

In Williams' remote operating areas, limited connectivity has long posed a challenge for field technicians. Often, they have had to travel 30 minutes to an hour away from their work sites just to access the technology needed to submit requests and update work documentation. This not only increases the risk of missing critical data but also leads to longer response times and unproductive travel.

IMPACT

Williams' technicians rely heavily on mobile platforms to document their daily tasks in real time. To address this, the company launched an initiative focused on being “Always On, Always Connected.” By deploying Starlink, Williams now provides high-bandwidth, low-latency internet access directly at remote work locations—ensuring teams stay connected, productive, and safe.

This advancement empowers the workforce to deliver timely, accurate documentation without leaving job sites, ultimately improving operational efficiency and reducing risk. Implementation of Starlink where applicable has returned approximately $6 million in 2025 to operating areas while improving coverage and operating performance.

Williams plans to expand Starlink to additional operating areas between now and 2027.
