You can use your own router or networking system with most Starlink kits. The exact setup depends on which Starlink kit you have and whether it includes native Ethernet.
To connect Starlink to an external router or an existing Wi-Fi network, you must use Ethernet. The required steps depend on your Starlink kit:
Standard Actuated - Requires the Starlink Ethernet Adapter. Connect the adapter to the Starlink router, then run an Ethernet cable from the adapter to the WAN port of your third-party router.
Starlink Standard - Includes built-in Ethernet on the power supply, so no adapter is needed. Connect an Ethernet cable from the power supply directly to the WAN port on your router.
Performance (Gen 1) - Includes a Starlink Ethernet cable. Connect the Ethernet cable from the power supply to the WAN port on your router.
Performance (Gen 2) - Includes a dedicated power supply with built-in Ethernet. Connect directly from the power supply to the WAN port on your router. No Ethernet adapter needed.
Performance (Gen 3) - Use the provided ethernet cable. After you have set up your third-party router and connected to Starlink with the WAN port, open the Starlink app. If the app says "Starlink unreachable", create a static route in your router configuration settings.
Starlink Enterprise - Enterprise kits come with a power supply that provides native Ethernet. Connect directly from the power supply to the WAN port of your router.
Starlink Mini - Supports Ethernet via the Starlink Mini → USB-C to Ethernet Adapter. Connect the adapter to Mini, then run Ethernet to your router’s WAN port.
Bypass mode turns off the built-in Starlink router/Wi-Fi so your third-party router can manage the network directly.
Bypass mode is required when:
Bypass mode is usually not required when:
In these setups, the power supply acts as the “modem,” not the Starlink router.
How to enable bypass mode:
DHCP - Set the WAN interface to DHCP so it automatically obtains an IP address from Starlink.
Health Checks
You can always check antenna status through the Starlink app, or your Starlink Dashboard.
Checking status from inside your local network (via web browser)
To access the standard Starlink device page at 192.168.100.1, configure a static route in your third-party router:
Once the route is set, open a browser and go to 192.168.100.1 to view the Starlink dashboard.
