Kingo provides affordable clean energy and connectivity solutions to people and small businesses in off-the-grid (OTG) communities in Guatemala, Honduras, and Colombia. They design and operate high-uptime systems that provide last-mile service in remote areas where traditional wired infrastructure is too challenging or costly to deploy. To date, Kingo has provided solar energy to over 2.7 million people and expects to service more than 100 million homes by 2035.
Kingo uses IoT technology to enable consumer goods and financial services companies to expand to OTG areas. They make it possible for OTG communities to have access to education, healthcare and other basic services for the first time.
CHALLENGE
Kingo first started operations using Viasat, which, until 2023, was the only available option in the countries where they operated. Viasat’s use of geosynchronous orbit satellites forced Kingo to face limited bandwidth, latency and significant constraints on their ability to scale — especially in off-grid regions in multiple Latin American countries.
Kingo also needed reliable technical support and the flexibility to have a pricing plan that made sense relative to their target market.
IMPACT
Using Starlink to expand their operations, Kingo has seen enhanced latency performance, bandwidth, uptime, and coverage. Kingo is able to deliver broadband connectivity to thousands of rural communities, enabling the transformation of their operations.
