AquaChile, the largest salmon farmer in Chile and the second largest in the world, supplies food to over 150 million people globally each month. Many of AquaChile’s sites are in remote areas of southern Chile, where securing stable, high-speed internet has historically been a challenge.

Prior to Starlink, AquaChile relied on geostationary satellite technology (GEO) for internet connection, averaging 2 Mbps for both upload and download speeds, with latency around 1000 ms. This made it “practically impossible to carry out videoconferences, transmit video from security cameras and [operate] other technologies that required higher bandwidths.” Additionally, their GEO equipment was very sensitive to conditions on and near the water, leading to “constant connectivity problems.”

AquaChile's expanding operations required a reliable internet connection, but their existing GEO technology was obstructing productivity and growth. The constant connectivity issues were affecting essential functions and efficiency across various sites.

To-date, AquaChile has deployed Starlink to 80 sites. With average speeds of 220 Mbps down and 24 Mbps up, and latency reduced to ~40 ms, AquaChile's remote sites now able maintain reliable communication channels and more efficient business operations. Starlink's deployment enabled live video conferences, VoIP calls, real-time video surveillance, and seamless transmission of data from sensors and IoT devices.>

With Starlink, AquaChile’s employees and business partners can “communicate with loved ones, access telemedicine, and visit social media networks and entertainment services.“

Beyond their worksites, AquaChile has deployed Starlink neighboring regions such as Puerto Eden and rural schools in the Aysen regions, giving free internet to communities who previously were unconnected.

Indeed, the community of Puerto Eden, home to 80 chileans of the indigenous Kawésqar people, is one of the most isolated communities in the entire world. Before the arrival of Starlink, contact with the outside world was only possible through a several hour boat ride. Now Starlink has given them a “window to the world”, where they can access telemedicine, educational opportunities, and connect with distant family members.
